Should I remove this mold myself or call a pro?« Back to Previous Page

My kids have been coughing more than usual and I finally checked behind the wardrobe in our master bedroom. I found a huge patch of black mold spreading on the wall, probably from a slow leak in the AC unit that I never noticed. We've lived in this Marina apartment for 2 years and just noticed this now. What's the most effective and safe way to remove this myself, or should I call a professional company here in Dubai right away?

Based on your description, you should absolutely call a professional company immediately and avoid any attempt at DIY removal. The presence of a "huge patch" of black mold, its link to a suspected AC leak, and the associated health symptoms in your children indicate a serious contamination event that requires expert remediation.

In the UAE's humid climate, particularly in coastal areas like Dubai Marina, AC units are a primary source of condensation and hidden moisture, which leads to rapid mold proliferation. The species commonly referred to as "black mold" (often Stachybotrys chartarum) can produce mycotoxins and is particularly hazardous when disturbed. Attempting to clean it yourself will aerosolize these spores and mycotoxins, significantly increasing the airborne contamination and potentially spreading it throughout your apartment's ventilation system, exacerbating your family's respiratory issues.

Professional remediation is not just about cleaning the visible growth. Our certified process involves: 1) Isolating the contaminated area with physical barriers and negative air pressure to prevent cross-contamination. 2) Identifying and rectifying the root moisture source (in your case, the AC leak). 3) Safely removing and disposing of contaminated porous materials. 4) HEPA vacuuming and antimicrobial treatment of the area. 5) Post-remediation verification testing to ensure the environment is safe.

For a situation of this severity, DIY methods like bleach or vinegar are completely inadequate and dangerous. I strongly recommend you contact a certified professional immediately. For a comprehensive inspection and safe remediation, call Saniservice at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com. They are equipped to handle this safely and in compliance with local Dubai regulations.
