Should I test for mold near the baseboard?« Back to Previous Page

After the rain last month, I noticed a small greenish patch growing behind the baseboard in our master bedroom. The AC has been on almost non-stop since it’s so hot outside, but that area is still damp to the touch. Should I be worried about mold? What does professional testing typically cost, and would it be worth it given how close we are to moving into a new home?

Absolutely, testing for mold is highly recommended especially given the conditions described. The presence of a damp greenish patch behind your baseboard could be indicative of mold growth, which is particularly concerning due to the persistent moisture and hot climate of Dubai.

In the UAE, there are no specific regulations mandating mold testing in residential properties, but it's wise to proceed with caution. Mold can pose health risks, especially for individuals with allergies or respiratory issues, making a professional inspection crucial before moving into your new home.

Typically, professional mold testing involves taking air samples and/or surface swabs from the affected area. The cost can vary widely depending on the scope of the test, location, and the company you choose. In Dubai, expect to pay anywhere between AED 200 - 500 for basic tests up to AED 1,500 or more for comprehensive assessments.

Given your situation, it would be prudent to contact a certified environmental inspection and remediation service provider such as Saniservice (hello@saniservice.com) or call their hotline at 800-MOLDS (800-66537). They can conduct a thorough evaluation, including identifying the type of mold present, assessing its potential health impacts, and recommending appropriate remediation steps if necessary.

Remember that prolonged exposure to damp conditions could lead to further mold growth and structural damage. Addressing this issue promptly is crucial for maintaining both your family's health and the integrity of your home.
