Should I treat this black mold as an emergency?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a small patch of black mold in the corner of our master bedroom closet, which is on an interior wall. It’s been incredibly humid lately even with the AC running constantly. Should I treat this as a complete emergency and call a professional today, or is it something I can handle myself with a bleach solution this weekend?

Based on your description, this should be treated with significant urgency, but likely not as a full-scale emergency requiring an after-hours call. The location on an interior wall is a major red flag. In the UAE's climate, with AC units working overtime, that patch is likely just the visible tip of a much larger moisture problem within the wall cavity itself, potentially from a small plumbing leak or, more commonly, condensation forming on cold pipes or within the AC ductwork that runs inside those walls.

A bleach solution is a common misconception and is strongly discouraged. It only bleaches the visible pigment on the surface and does not kill the root structure (hyphae) of the mold. More critically, the water in the solution can actually feed the mold growth deeper within the drywall or plaster, making the problem worse in the long run.

For a proper resolution, a professional inspection is absolutely recommended. We use thermal imaging cameras and moisture meters to pinpoint the exact source of the moisture without destructive testing. UAE regulations, particularly from Dubai Municipality, have strict guidelines on indoor air quality and mold remediation to ensure it's done safely, containing spores to prevent cross-contamination.

My advice: Do not disturb it. Avoid using the closet and keep the area ventilated. For a definitive assessment and safe, permanent removal, please call our certified team to schedule an inspection. We can be reached at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or via email at hello@saniservice.com.
