Should I urgently treat black mold behind my wardrobe?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a bunch of small black spots spreading along the bottom of our bedroom wall, right behind the wardrobe. It's on the wall that faces the outside of our building in Jumeirah. The AC unit is on the opposite wall, but the room always feels a bit damp. Is this something I need to get a professional to handle immediately, or can it wait a few weeks until my schedule clears up?

Based on your description, this requires immediate professional attention and should not be delayed for weeks. The location, appearance, and symptoms you've described are significant red flags. The small black spots spreading along an exterior wall in Jumeirah, combined with a persistent damp feeling, strongly indicate an active mold colony, likely Stachybotrys chartarum (black mold) or Aspergillus niger.

The issue is almost certainly being driven by Dubai's high ambient humidity and a phenomenon called thermal bridging. The exterior wall, constantly heated by the sun, creates a cold spot on the interior surface when your AC is running. This leads to condensation forming inside the wall cavity, especially behind a large piece of furniture like a wardrobe that restricts airflow. This hidden moisture provides the perfect environment for mold to thrive unseen.

Attempting to clean this yourself with store-bought solutions is not advised. Surface cleaning will not address the root moisture problem or the hyphae (root structures) that have likely penetrated the wall material. Disturbing it without proper containment can aerosolize harmful mycotoxins and spores, spreading the contamination throughout your bedroom and HVAC system.

A certified professional inspection is crucial. We use thermal imaging cameras to pinpoint the exact source and extent of the moisture intrusion and air/o-surface sampling to identify the mold species, which dictates the correct remediation protocol as per UAE standards. Remediation involves isolating the area, using HEPA filtration, safely removing contaminated materials, and applying professional-grade antimicrobials.

Given the health risks and potential for structural damage, I recommend acting now. Please contact our team for a comprehensive assessment. Call Saniservice at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com.
