Should I worry about closet mold or use vinegar?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a few small black spots in the corner of our master bedroom closet. It’s an interior wall, and with this crazy humidity lately, I’m worried it might be spreading behind the clothes. How urgently do I need to get a professional to look at this, or is it something I can handle myself with vinegar?

Closet mold in Dubai's climate should be addressed promptly. The high humidity, especially during summer and in AC-cooled homes, creates ideal conditions for mold to grow. Since you've noticed it on an interior wall, the moisture source is likely condensation from temperature differences or trapped humid air from the en-suite bathroom.

For a few small spots, you can attempt cleaning with a vinegar solution (white distilled vinegar is fine). Wipe the area thoroughly and allow it to dry completely. However, vinegar is a surface-level solution and may not address the root moisture problem or any growth hidden behind the wall. The UAE's high ambient humidity means mold can recur quickly if the underlying cause isn't fixed.

Given that it's in a closet where air circulation is poor and you're concerned about spreading, a professional inspection is advisable. They use moisture meters and thermal cameras to detect hidden dampness that isn't visible. Remediation in Dubai often involves correcting insulation issues, improving ventilation, and using professional-grade antimicrobials for a longer-lasting solution, as DIY methods often fail in this climate. For your peace of mind, getting it assessed would confirm the extent and prevent a larger issue later.
