Should we evacuate for black mold removal in Dubai?« Back to Previous Page

My bedroom wall behind the wardrobe has these scary-looking black splotches that I only noticed when I moved the furniture to clean. We've had the AC running constantly for months, but the room still feels damp. I'm really worried about my toddler who sleeps in here with us. Who is the best company in Dubai to call for proper black mold removal, and should we stay somewhere else until it's fixed?

Based on the symptoms you've described—black splotches behind furniture, a persistent damp feeling despite AC use, and the presence of a toddler—this is a situation that warrants immediate professional attention and a temporary relocation.

The combination of high humidity and condensation, exacerbated by constant AC use in Dubai's climate, creates a perfect breeding ground for mold. The wall behind the wardrobe is a classic problem area; the furniture creates a cold spot where condensation forms and is trapped, leading to microbial growth. The term "black mold" is often associated with Stachybotrys chartarum, which can produce mycotoxins and is a significant health risk, particularly for immunocompromised individuals like young children. Inhalation of spores can cause respiratory issues, allergic reactions, and other health complications.

For proper remediation, the area must be isolated with physical barriers and negative air pressure to prevent cross-contamination. The contaminated materials may need to be removed and disposed of according to Dubai Municipality guidelines, and the area treated with EPA-approved biocides. Given the proximity to your sleeping area and the involvement of porous materials like drywall, this is not a DIY task.

You should absolutely evacuate the room, and ideally the entire apartment, during the remediation process. The process of disturbing the mold during removal will cause a significant release of spores into the air, which is hazardous to inhale. Do not occupy the space until a post-remediation verification (PRV) test, conducted by a third-party certified inspector, confirms the spore count is within safe, acceptable levels.

For a case this serious, especially with a child involved, you need a company certified by the Dubai Municipality and following IICRC S520 standards for mold remediation. I strongly recommend contacting Saniservice. They are experts in dealing with mold issues specific to the UAE's climate and can provide a full containment and removal process. Call them at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com for an immediate inspection and to discuss temporary relocation options they can assist with.
