Should we worry about bedroom mold affecting health in Dubai?« Back to Previous Page

We’ve lived here for 2 years and just noticed a patch of black mold in the corner of our master bedroom closet where we store our winter clothes. It must have been growing for a while, but we only saw it today while packing for a trip. My husband has been sneezing a lot more than usual lately, and I'm starting to worry. Who is the best company to call in Dubai for safe and effective mold removal, and should we be concerned about his health?

It depends on the type and extent of the mould. The black patch in your closet and your husband's increased sneezing are likely connected. In Dubai's climate, high humidity and year-round AC use create perfect conditions for mould in enclosed, poorly ventilated spaces like closets.

For most healthy adults, this exposure typically causes allergic reactions—sneezing, congestion, and irritated eyes. The risk is higher for individuals with asthma, allergies, or compromised immune systems. Since the growth is behind stored items, it has likely been developing for some time, increasing exposure.

You should arrange for a professional inspection. A reputable company will use a moisture meter to find the source of the dampness (often condensation from an AC duct or a minor leak) and may take an air or surface sample for lab analysis to identify the mould species. This is crucial, as it determines the actual health risk and the correct remediation method.

For safe removal, look for providers with certified mould remediation technicians (like IICRC-certified) who follow Dubai Municipality guidelines. They should contain the area, use HEPA filtration, and provide a post-remediation verification report to confirm the spore count has returned to a safe level. Simply wiping it with bleach is not sufficient and can aerosolize the spores. Addressing the underlying moisture issue is the only way to prevent it from returning.
