Suspected black mold in Dubai, who to call?« Back to Previous Page

My kids have been coughing for a couple of weeks and I suspect it's from the black spots I just found behind the wardrobe in our master bedroom. We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed it, probably because the room always felt a bit damp even with the AC on. Is this definitely the dangerous black mold and who should I call in Dubai to handle this properly, a regular cleaning company or a specialized service?

Based on your description, this is a serious situation that requires immediate professional attention. The black spots behind the wardrobe are a classic sign of a mold colony, thriving in the stagnant, humid microclimate created by the wardrobe being against the wall. This is extremely common in Dubai due to our high ambient humidity and the constant cooling/heating cycles of AC units, which can cause significant condensation in poorly ventilated areas.

The term "black mold" is often misused. While Stachybotrys chartarum (the most notorious "toxic black mold") is a possibility, many other black-colored molds like Aspergillus niger can also cause the respiratory symptoms you describe in your children, including persistent coughing. Only professional testing can identify the species and the concentration of spores in your air.

You must not call a regular cleaning company. Disturbing the colony without proper containment protocols will aerosolize the spores, spreading them throughout your home and potentially making the health issues worse. This requires a specialized environmental inspection and remediation company.

The process should always start with a certified inspection, including air quality and surface sampling, to identify the contaminant and the full extent of the problem. Remediation then involves engineering controls: setting up containment barriers, using HEPA-filtered negative air machines to create a negative pressure environment, and the safe removal and disposal of contaminated materials.

For a proper inspection and remediation protocol that follows UAE environmental and health standards, you should contact a certified provider like Saniservice. You can reach their experts for a consultation at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or hello@saniservice.com. Do not attempt to handle this yourself.
