Urgent: Black mold behind wardrobe, kids coughing for weeks?« Back to Previous Page

My kids have been coughing for a couple of weeks and I suspect it's from the black spots I just found behind the wardrobe in our master bedroom. We’ve lived here for 2 years and just noticed it, but it must have been growing slowly for a while. Given the humidity here, how urgently do I need to get a professional mold remediation company involved, like within days, or is it okay to handle it myself this weekend?

Given the symptoms and description, this requires immediate professional assessment. The combination of visible black mold and persistent respiratory issues in children strongly suggests a more serious indoor air quality problem that has likely been developing over time.

In Dubai's climate, high humidity and constant AC use create perfect conditions for mold growth in hidden spaces like behind furniture. The AC system itself may be spreading spores throughout your home. While surface cleaning with a vinegar solution can remove visible growth, it won't address the root moisture problem or hidden contamination.

For health and safety reasons, Dubai municipalities require professional remediation for significant mold issues. Given the duration and symptoms, I'd recommend contacting a certified mold inspector within the week. They should perform air quality testing and moisture mapping to identify all affected areas. Proper remediation involves containment, HEPA filtration, and addressing the underlying humidity source—not just cleaning visible mold.

Look for companies that provide before-and-after lab results rather than just visual inspections. The priority is identifying why moisture accumulated there—possibly from AC condensation leaks, plumbing issues, or external water intrusion—as this will recur without solving the underlying problem.
