Urgent: Black mold in AC vent, need professional treatment?« Back to Previous Page

The AC in our villa in Al Barsha seems to be leaking a small amount of water into the vent in the master bedroom wall. I just pulled the cover off and the inside of the wall is covered in black fuzzy mold. It’s been like this for at least a couple of weeks. Given the humidity here, is this something I need to get treated professionally ASAP, or is it okay to clean myself if I’m careful?

Based on your description, this is a situation that requires immediate professional attention and is not recommended for DIY cleaning. The presence of black fuzzy mold inside the wall cavity due to an AC leak is a serious concern, particularly in Dubai's climate.

The constant high humidity and year-round AC use create a perfect environment for rapid mold proliferation. What you see on the surface is often just a fraction of the actual growth; the mold has likely spread deep into the wall and insulation, which is impossible to properly address without specialized equipment and techniques. Disturbing it yourself can aerosolize harmful spores, contaminating your entire living space and posing significant health risks, especially for those with respiratory conditions.

In the UAE, proper mold remediation is governed by strict health and safety standards (such as those from DM and DHA) to ensure complete removal and prevent recurrence. A professional inspection, including air and surface sampling, is critical to assess the full extent of contamination. The root cause—the AC leak—must also be repaired to prevent the problem from returning immediately after cleaning.

For a case like this in Al Barsha, I strongly recommend contacting a certified professional immediately. Our team at Saniservice specializes in this exact scenario. We use containment barriers, HEPA filtration, and industrial-grade antimicrobials to safely and permanently resolve the issue. Please call us at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com for an urgent inspection and remediation plan.
