Urgent black mold in closet, need landlord fix now?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a few small black spots in the corner of our master bedroom closet in Jumeirah. It's on the wall that faces the outside, and it's been there for maybe a couple of weeks. With the humidity lately, I'm worried it's spreading behind the clothes. Is this something I need to get my landlord to fix immediately, or can it wait until next week?

Yes, this requires prompt landlord notification and action. In Dubai's climate, small visible mold often indicates a larger hidden moisture problem, especially on exterior walls where condensation can form behind insulation.

Notify your landlord in writing immediately with photos. Under Dubai rental law, structural and humidity-related repairs that affect habitability are typically the landlord's responsibility. Do not attempt to clean it yourself with bleach, as this can spread spores and doesn't address the root moisture issue. Move clothes away from the affected wall to improve air circulation.

The priority is identifying the moisture source—it could be an external leak, internal condensation, or a fault in the AC system causing high humidity. A professional inspection can pinpoint this. While remediation for a small area is straightforward, ensuring the cause is fixed is critical to prevent rapid regrowth, which is common here.
