Urgent: Black mold in closet with newborn nearby?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a patch of black spots spreading in the corner of our master bedroom closet, right against the outside wall. The weird thing is the closet always feels a bit damp, even though we never use it. We’re worried this might be more serious, especially with our newborn in the next room. Is this something we need to get an inspector for immediately, or can it wait a few weeks?

Based on your description, this situation warrants immediate professional attention, especially with a newborn in the adjacent room. The combination of black spots, persistent dampness against an outside wall, and the Dubai climate is a significant red flag.

The dampness you describe is likely due to condensation, a common issue here where cool, air-conditioned interiors meet the humid, warm exterior air, particularly through walls with inadequate insulation. This creates a perfect microenvironment for mold, including the dangerous Stachybotrys chartarum (often referred to as "black mold"), which thrives on constant, low-level moisture.

With an infant nearby, the risk is elevated. Infants have developing respiratory systems and are far more susceptible to mold spores, which can become airborne and circulate through your AC system, potentially leading to allergic reactions, asthma development, and other respiratory issues. This is not a situation for DIY assessment or delay.

A certified mold inspection is crucial. Our process involves using thermal imaging cameras to identify the precise temperature differentials causing the condensation, moisture meters to quantify the dampness within the wall cavity, and air and surface sampling to identify the specific species and concentration of mold present. This data is essential for developing an effective remediation plan that addresses the root cause, not just the visible growth.

I strongly recommend you contact a professional service immediately. Our team at Saniservice is certified and follows strict Dubai Municipality guidelines for environmental health and safety. Please call us at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com to schedule a comprehensive inspection. Do not attempt to disturb the area, as this can release a large number of spores.
