Urgent: black mold in kids' room need inspector now?« Back to Previous Page

My kids have been coughing for a couple of weeks now, and I’ve just noticed a patch of black mold in the corner of their bedroom closet, behind some boxes. We’re in a villa in Jumeirah and I’m worried it’s been growing there since the humidity spiked last month. Is this something I need to get an inspector for immediately, or can it wait until the weekend?

Visible black mold in a child's bedroom, especially with ongoing respiratory symptoms, warrants prompt attention. Given Dubai's high humidity and reliance on AC systems, mold can spread in hidden cavities like walls or under floors.

You should move the boxes and isolate the area to prevent spore disturbance. For a small, surface-level patch (less than one square meter), a thorough cleaning with appropriate protective gear may be sufficient. However, since the mold was hidden and there are health symptoms, a professional inspection is strongly recommended to assess the full extent, including inside the wall or AC system. They can identify the species and provide a remediation plan.

In Dubai, this is not typically a regulatory emergency requiring immediate authorities, but for health reasons, it should not be delayed for weeks. An assessment within a few days is advisable. Look for a provider that uses moisture meters and thermal imaging to find the source of the moisture and who can provide a documented lab analysis of the mold type. This data is crucial for effective cleanup and preventing recurrence.
