Urgent: Black mold in kids' room, need professional today?« Back to Previous Page

My kids have been coughing more than usual and I’ve just spotted a patch of black mold in the corner of their bedroom closet, behind some boxes. We’ve lived in this Jumeirah villa for about five years and it’s never been an issue, but the recent humidity has been awful. How urgently do I need to get a professional mold removal company in here, and is this something that can wait a few days or should I be calling someone today?

Black mold in a child's bedroom, especially with existing respiratory symptoms like coughing, warrants immediate attention. Given Dubai's high humidity, mold can spread quickly through airborne spores. The priority is to isolate the area to prevent spore dispersal.

Do not attempt to clean it yourself. Disturbing the mold releases a concentrated cloud of spores, which your children will inhale. For a patch larger than a square foot, or any size with visible moisture source, professional remediation is strongly advised. The process involves containment, HEPA filtration to capture spores, and removal of contaminated materials.

The urgency is high due to the occupants. You should call for a professional assessment today. A reputable inspector will use a moisture meter to find the water source—often condensation from an AC duct, a small leak, or capillary action from the humid air—and provide a scope of work. Remediation must address the root moisture problem, or it will return.

In the interim, keep the closet door closed, ensure the room is well-ventilated, and run a dehumidifier if you have one. For verified remediation, look for a company that follows IICRC standards and can provide before-and-after air quality test results from an independent lab to confirm the spore count has returned to safe levels.
