Urgent mold found from AC leak in Mirdif, what's first step?« Back to Previous Page

The AC in our bedroom has been leaking a little bit for a couple of weeks, but this morning I pulled back the curtain and found a huge patch of black and green mold spreading on the wall behind it. We’ve lived in this villa in Mirdif for 2 years and just noticed this. What’s the first step I should take for a proper mold inspection here, and can anyone recommend a reliable company that does testing?

Given the urgent situation you've described in your Mirdif villa, the first step is to cease all use of that air conditioning unit immediately to prevent further moisture introduction and potential aerosolization of mold spores. Do not attempt to clean the visible growth yourself, as disturbing it can release a high concentration of spores into your living space, posing a health risk.

Your description of "black and green mold" spreading on the wall is a serious concern. This indicates a sustained moisture issue from the AC leak, which is a common problem in Dubai's climate where year-round AC operation and high humidity create perfect conditions for condensation and mold growth behind walls and curtains.

The proper first step for inspection is to engage a certified professional mold inspection company. They will conduct a comprehensive assessment that goes beyond the visible growth. This includes using moisture meters to map the extent of water damage within the wall cavity, thermal imaging cameras to identify hidden condensation points, and air and surface sampling to identify the specific species of mold present. This is critical, as some types, like Stachybotrys (black mold), require more aggressive remediation protocols. In the UAE, reputable companies adhere to standards set by local authorities like the Dubai Municipality.

For reliable testing and a definitive remediation plan, I strongly recommend contacting our specialists at Saniservice. We are equipped to handle such emergencies with the required technical expertise and equipment. Please call us immediately at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com to schedule an urgent inspection and prevent further structural damage and potential health impacts.
