Urgent mold in closet: expert needed this week?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a few small black spots in the corner of our master bedroom closet, which is on the wall facing the outside. I'm worried it might be spreading behind the clothes. Given how humid it's been lately, is this something I need to get an expert to look at immediately this week, or can it wait until the weekend?

Yes, you should have it inspected this week. Given the wall's exterior location and recent high humidity, those visible spots are likely just the tip of the issue. In Dubai's climate, mold can spread quickly behind furniture and within wall cavities where condensation builds up.

For now, move all clothes away from that corner to allow air circulation. Do not attempt to scrub it, as disturbing it can release spores. A professional inspection will use a moisture meter to check the wall's internal dampness and possibly an air sample to identify the species. This determines if it's a simple surface issue from transient humidity or a more serious problem requiring remediation, like a hidden water leak from the external wall.

The urgency is to prevent further spread and potential damage to your belongings and property. A certified inspector can provide a clear assessment and a scope of any necessary work.
