Urgent mold inspection needed for bedroom closet spots?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years in Downtown and just noticed a few black spots in the corner of our master bedroom closet, which is on an exterior wall. It’s been extra humid lately and the room has felt damp even with the AC running constantly. Should I be calling someone for a mold inspection this week, or is this something that can wait until the weather cools down?

Yes, call for a professional inspection this week. The combination of visible black spots and a persistent damp feeling, even with AC running, indicates an active moisture issue that needs diagnosis.

In Dubai's high humidity, especially during summer, exterior walls are prone to condensation where the cool interior meets the hot, moist outdoor air. This creates a perfect environment for mold. The spots in your closet are likely just the visible portion of a larger colony growing within the wall cavity or behind the baseboards.

Waiting for cooler weather allows the mold to spread further, potentially compromising indoor air quality and the building structure. A certified inspector will use tools like moisture meters and thermal cameras to locate the source of the dampness—whether it's a small condensation issue, a hidden pipe leak, or inadequate insulation. Crucially, they will take surface and potentially air samples for lab analysis to identify the mold species, which determines the appropriate remediation strategy. This science-driven approach is essential, as some cleaning methods can aggravate certain types of mold, spreading spores throughout your home. The immediate step is to keep the area well-ventilated and avoid disturbing the spots until a professional assessment is complete.
