Urgent mold inspection needed for bedroom on exterior wall?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a patch of black spots growing behind the wardrobe in our master bedroom, which is on the exterior wall of our villa in Mirdif. It's been humid lately and the room has started to feel damp. How urgently do I need to get a professional mold inspection, or is this something I can handle myself first?

An inspection is warranted given your description. The combination of an exterior wall in a villa, recent humidity, and visible black growth behind furniture suggests a moisture issue that needs professional diagnosis. In Dubai's climate, mold on exterior walls often indicates condensation from thermal bridging (where the wall cools and meets warm, humid air) or a small leak.

You can do a preliminary check yourself. Move the wardrobe away from the wall. Wipe a small patch with a diluted bleach solution (1 part bleach to 10 parts water). If it wipes away easily and doesn't quickly return, it may be surface-level. However, if it stains deeply or reappears within days, the moisture source is active and the mold is likely established within the wall material.

For a villa in Mirdif, a professional inspection is strongly recommended. They use moisture meters and thermal imaging cameras to find the exact moisture source hidden inside the wall cavity, which is critical for a permanent fix. Simply cleaning the surface without addressing the root cause will lead to immediate recurrence. The inspection will identify the species and the extent of the problem, which dictates the remediation protocol. This is not a minor issue to delay, as ongoing dampness will degrade your villa's building materials.
