urgent: mold inspection needed for kids' nighttime cough?« Back to Previous Page

My kids have been coughing at night for a couple of weeks and I just found a patch of black spots behind the wardrobe in our master bedroom. We live in a villa in Mirdif and I'm worried the recent humidity made it worse. How urgently do we need to get a professional mold inspection, or can this wait until the weekend?

The nighttime cough with visible mold is a strong signal to act this week, not wait. In Dubai's high humidity, especially after recent weather, that isolated patch often indicates a wider, hidden problem within wall cavities or the AC system, which can directly affect air quality.

For children's prolonged respiratory symptoms linked to visible growth, a professional inspection is advised to identify the source and extent. The inspector should use a moisture meter to find the dampness origin and may recommend air or surface sampling to identify the mold type, as some species common in villas here are more associated with irritation.

Until then, avoid disturbing the patch. Clean hard surfaces with a diluted detergent solution, but do not attempt to scrub the mold itself, as this can release more spores. Ensure your AC is running consistently to lower indoor humidity, which is a primary driver for growth. The inspection will determine if remediation is needed or if solving a moisture issue (like a small leak or condensation) is sufficient.
