Urgent to clean black mold in Mirdif AC unit?« Back to Previous Page

The AC in my bedroom has been making a weird damp smell for a couple of weeks, and yesterday I finally pulled the filter out to find black spots all over the inside of the unit. We live in a villa in Mirdif and run the AC constantly. Given how humid it's been, how urgent is it that I get a professional cleaning done?

Given the black spots you've seen inside the unit and the consistent damp smell, it is strongly recommended to get a professional inspection and cleaning. In Dubai's high humidity, especially during summer and in a villa like yours in Mirdif where AC runs constantly, this environment is ideal for mold growth. The condensation inside the units provides the perfect moisture source.

While not every case is an immediate health emergency, prolonged exposure to mold spores from an AC can cause persistent allergy-like symptoms such as sneezing, coughing, and congestion. For individuals with asthma or respiratory sensitivities, the reaction can be more pronounced. The urgency is high to prevent the colony from expanding further into the ductwork, which makes remediation more complex.

A proper cleaning is more than just wiping the visible spots. It involves accessing the internal cooling coils and drip pan, which are the primary sources of moisture and growth. Many standard cleaning services only address superficial areas. The most reliable approach is to hire a provider that can conduct before-and-after testing to verify the spore count has been measurably reduced, providing you with documented results from a certified microbiology lab. This is the only way to confirm the issue has been resolved.
