Urgent to fix black mold on bedroom wall this week?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a bunch of black, speckled spots growing along the bottom of our bedroom wall, behind the wardrobe. It's the wall that faces the outside of our villa in Jumeirah, and it's been really humid lately. Is this something I need to get someone to look at this week, or is it okay to wait until after the weekend?

Based on your description of black, speckled spots on an exterior wall behind furniture in a Jumeirah villa, this is a situation that warrants professional attention this week, not after the weekend. The location is a classic high-risk zone for mold in Dubai's climate.

The wall facing the outside is subject to thermal bridging, where the heat from outside meets the cooled interior air from your AC, leading to significant condensation within the wall cavity. This trapped moisture, combined with the lack of air circulation behind the wardrobe, creates a perfect incubator for mold. The recent high humidity has only accelerated this process. What you are seeing is likely the surface manifestation of a potentially larger colony that may be growing within the wall itself.

In the UAE, prolonged exposure to mold spores, particularly the types that present as black spots, can pose health risks, including allergic reactions and respiratory issues. Delaying remediation allows the colony to mature and release more spores into your bedroom's air.

I strongly recommend you schedule a professional inspection immediately. A certified mold inspector will use tools like moisture meters and thermal imaging cameras to assess the full extent of the moisture intrusion and the mold growth, even inside the wall. They can also take air and surface samples to identify the species, which dictates the proper remediation protocol.
