Urgent to hire pro for possible closet mold?« Back to Previous Page
|
We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a few small black spots near the ceiling in our master bedroom closet. After all the humidity and fog we had last week, the musty smell in that room has gotten a lot stronger. I’m worried it might be spreading behind the walls. How urgent is it that I get a professional to deal with this, or is it something I can handle myself with a cleaner from the supermarket?

Given the strong musty smell and visible spots after recent humidity, this is worth taking seriously. The combination of high ambient humidity and your air conditioning creating cold surfaces (like interior walls and ceilings) creates ideal conditions for mold growth, especially in enclosed spaces like closets.
In Dubai's climate, what you see is often just the tip of the iceberg. Mold can spread behind walls and under flooring, using the building materials themselves as a food source. A small supermarket cleaner will only remove surface discoloration on the paint, not address the root moisture problem or the hidden colony. This can give a false sense of security while the problem continues to grow. A professional inspection is recommended here. They use moisture meters and thermal imaging cameras to locate the source of condensation or hidden dampness without destructive probing. They can also take an air or surface sample for lab analysis to identify the mold type, which dictates the proper remediation protocol. For a situation with a persistent odor and recent growth following high humidity, a professional assessment is the most reliable way to understand the true scope and get it resolved correctly. |
