Urgent to hire professional mold removal or use bleach?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived in our villa in Jumeirah for about five years, but it's only this winter that I've started seeing these small black spots in the corner of our master bedroom closet. The room always feels a bit damp, and it seems worse since the recent humidity. How urgent is it that I get a professional mold removal company in, or can I handle this myself with bleach?

It depends on the extent. For a small, surface-level patch (under one square foot) that you've just noticed, a DIY approach may suffice. However, the damp feeling and location in a closet suggest a potential moisture source, which is the real problem.

In Dubai's climate, high humidity and constant AC use create ideal conditions for mold. The AC may be causing condensation within the wall or under the flooring, feeding the growth you see. Bleach only removes surface discoloration on non-porous materials; it doesn't kill the root structure on porous drywall or wood, and it doesn't address the moisture issue. The mold will almost certainly return.

For your situation, a professional inspection is strongly recommended. They will use moisture meters and thermal cameras to locate the hidden source of dampness, which is critical for a permanent solution. The small spots are likely just the visible tip of the problem. Proper remediation involves containing the area, removing affected porous materials, and using specialized antimicrobials, followed by verification that the space is dry and spore counts are normalized. Given the villa's age and Jumeirah's proximity to the sea, investigating hidden condensation is a priority.
