Urgent to inspect closet mold on outside wall?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed what looks like black spots starting to appear in the corner of our master bedroom closet. It's on the wall that faces the outside of the building, and with all the humidity lately, I'm getting worried it's spreading. How urgently do we need to get a professional mold inspection, or is this something we can handle ourselves first?

Visible mold on an exterior wall in a Dubai bedroom is a sign of a moisture issue that should be addressed promptly. Given the high ambient humidity and reliance on air conditioning, this often indicates condensation forming on the cold wall surface behind or within the closet, creating an ideal environment for mold.

For a small, isolated patch (less than one square foot), you can carefully clean it with a diluted detergent solution while wearing a mask and gloves. However, the appearance of spots suggests the moisture source is inside the wall cavity, meaning the visible growth is likely just a fraction of the actual problem. A surface clean will not address the root cause, and it will almost certainly return.

A professional inspection is strongly recommended in this case. They use moisture meters and thermal imaging cameras to locate the exact source of water intrusion—whether it's condensation from the AC, a tiny leak in the building envelope, or capillary action from outside—and assess the extent of the hidden growth. In the UAE, this is particularly crucial as persistent interior mold can indicate construction integrity issues that need to be identified. The inspection will determine if remediation is needed and what steps are required to prevent recurrence.
