Urgent to treat black mold from sealed villa windows?« Back to Previous Page

My kids have been coughing for a couple of weeks and I just found a patch of black, fuzzy stuff behind the wardrobe in our master bedroom. We live in a villa in Mirdif and I'm worried it might have spread since our windows were sealed shut during the sandstorm last month. How urgently do I need to get a professional to deal with this, or is it something I can handle myself this weekend?

Black mold in a villa in Mirdif, especially after being sealed during a sandstorm, should be addressed immediately. The high humidity and condensation from year-round AC use create an ideal environment for it to spread rapidly behind walls and into the AC system, which could be the source of the persistent coughing.

Do not attempt to clean this yourself. Disturbing the colony without proper containment releases a massive amount of spores into your home's air, potentially worsening your children's symptoms and contaminating other areas. This is a job for professional remediation.

You need a two-step process: first, a certified inspector should conduct air and surface sampling to identify the mold species and the full extent of the contamination, often with a thermal camera to see inside walls. Then, a remediation team will contain the area, use HEPA filtration to clean the air, safely remove the contaminated materials, and treat the space to prevent regrowth. Given the health symptoms and the likely hidden spread, I would recommend getting a professional assessment within the next few days.
