What's the best dehumidifier for a windowless bathroom?« Back to Previous Page

The bathroom in my studio in JLT has no window and after my 20-minute showers, the walls are dripping with condensation. I’ve been wiping it down, but I just found a patch of black spots in the grout behind the toilet that wasn’t there a month ago. Besides running the exhaust fan, what’s the most effective dehumidifier or product I can buy here to stop this for good?

For a windowless bathroom in JLT, a compact, electric plug-in dehumidifier with a built-in humidistat is most effective. Look for a model with a capacity of at least 10-12 litres per day and an auto-shutoff feature for when its tank is full. In Dubai's climate, you need a unit that can handle the constant, high ambient humidity from showers and year-round AC operation.

After your shower, run the exhaust fan for a minimum of 30 minutes. If condensation is still dripping, the fan is likely undersized. The dehumidifier will work alongside it to pull excess moisture from the air. For the existing black spots, a professional inspection can determine if it's surface mold or a deeper issue within the wall. Surface mold on grout can often be treated with a dedicated grout cleaner, but remediation is needed if it has penetrated.

The key is managing humidity immediately. Besides the dehumidifier, wipe down all wet surfaces with a squeegee after showering and keep the bathroom door open to allow air circulation. For severe, recurring mold, a certified assessment is recommended to check for hidden problems and provide a remediation plan with post-clearance testing to verify the space is truly mold-free.
