What's the best dehumidifier for a windowless Dubai bathroom?« Back to Previous Page

Our family bathroom in our Jumeirah villa has no window and the grout between the tiles in the shower has started turning black over the last couple of months. I wipe it down after every use, but the AC vent is outside the bathroom door and it always feels damp in there. What’s the best dehumidifier or exhaust fan I can install here in Dubai to actually keep the moisture under control and stop this mold from coming back?

Black grout in a windowless bathroom is a classic Dubai humidity issue, not a cleaning one. The constant dampness you feel is the core problem. For a windowless bathroom, a high-capacity exhaust fan is your primary and most effective solution, not a standalone dehumidifier.

Look for an exhaust fan rated for the size of your bathroom, measured in Cubic Feet per Minute (CFM). For a standard bathroom, a minimum of 50 CFM is a starting point, but for a damp villa bathroom, a unit with 80-110 CFM is more appropriate to handle the steam from showers. Ensure it is installed to vent directly outside, not just into your ceiling void. It should run during showers and for at least 20-30 minutes after to remove the moisture at its source.

A portable dehumidifier is a secondary measure for a space you can't seal off; the open door and constant traffic make it inefficient. For severe, persistent dampness that an exhaust fan doesn't resolve, the issue may be more systemic, like a lack of negative air pressure or hidden condensation within the walls. In these cases, a professional assessment can identify if the AC system's balancing or additional ventilation is needed to manage the unique humidity challenges of our climate.
