What's the best mold killer at ACE or Carrefour?« Back to Previous Page

Our master bathroom in our Marina apartment doesn't have a window, and I just pulled back the rubber sealant around the shower and found a ton of black, fuzzy mold. It's been extra humid lately and the smell has been awful for a couple of weeks. What's the best local product I can buy from ACE or Carrefour to kill this for good and prevent it from coming back?

For black mold on silicone sealant in a Marina bathroom, a chlorine-based cleaner is your most effective over-the-counter option. Look for a thick gel formula, as it will cling to vertical surfaces and penetrate the mold roots better than a spray. Brands like HG Mould Spray or a generic thick bleach gel from ACE Hardware are common and effective for surface-level growth.
However, killing visible mold is only a temporary fix. The core issue in a windowless Dubai bathroom is perpetual high humidity and condensation from showers, creating a perfect environment for regrowth. The mold you see on the sealant is often just the surface expression of a deeper problem; the hyphae (roots) can penetrate porous grout behind tiles and the sealant itself. After cleaning, prevention is critical. Run the bathroom exhaust fan for at least 30 minutes after every shower. Wipe down wet walls and seals with a squeegee. A small dehumidifier can make a significant difference in managing the moisture levels that cause the problem. Ultimately, if the mold returns quickly or the musty smell persists, the growth is likely behind the walls. In such cases, a professional inspection with moisture meters and, if necessary, air quality testing is the only way to identify the full extent of the issue for a permanent solution. |
