What's the best product to remove black bathroom mold in Dubai?« Back to Previous Page

My bathroom’s grout in the shower corner has turned completely black, and I just spotted some fuzzy patches on the ceiling. It’s been incredibly humid the last few weeks in our Jumeirah apartment, and the window doesn’t open properly for ventilation. What’s the most effective and safe product I can buy locally to scrub this off myself?

Bleach-based cleaners are common, but for porous grout, a hydrogen peroxide solution or a dedicated anti-mould gel is often more effective as it penetrates deeper. Locally, look for brands like HG Mould Spray or Cif Ultimate Professional Mould Remover, which are widely available in supermarkets and hardware stores.

For the fuzzy ceiling patches, which indicate active growth, scrubbing the surface is a temporary fix. The core issue is the high humidity and condensation in your sealed bathroom. After cleaning, run the bathroom's exhaust fan for at least 30 minutes after every shower. If the window is stuck, that is a maintenance issue to report to your building management; proper ventilation is a key part of Dubai's housing codes for this exact reason.

If the black discoloration on the grout returns within a few weeks or the ceiling patches are widespread, the mould may have spread behind the tiles or into the ceiling board. In such cases, especially in Jumeirah's saline, humid air, a professional inspection can identify the moisture source and extent of the problem, as surface cleaning will not resolve a deeper infestation.
