What's the best way to clean mold in my closet?« Back to Previous Page

We’ve lived here for 2 years and just noticed a bunch of black, speckled spots appearing in the corner of our master bedroom closet. It’s on the wall that faces the outside of our villa in Arabian Ranches, and it’s been getting worse since the humidity spiked last week. I’m really worried about it spreading to our clothes. What’s the most effective way to clean this and who should I call to fix the root cause for good?

The black speckled mold in your closet is a common issue in Dubai villas, especially on exterior walls during humid periods. This is caused by thermal bridging, where the hot outside wall meets your cooled interior air, creating condensation that mold feeds on. For a small area like this, you can clean it yourself with a solution of white vinegar and water or a dedicated mildew cleaner. Wear an N95 mask and gloves, scrub the area, and allow it to dry completely.

However, cleaning only addresses the visible growth, not the moisture source. Given its location on an exterior wall and its recurrence, the root cause is almost certainly condensation within the wall cavity. To fix this for good, you need a professional inspection to identify the exact point of moisture intrusion and assess the wall’s insulation. They may need to improve the vapour barrier or address the thermal bridge.

For a permanent solution, contact a certified mold assessor who can provide a full diagnostic report. In serious cases, remediation specialists can then execute the repairs. This is a standard building issue in the UAE climate, and proper remediation focuses on correcting the building envelope flaw, not just surface cleaning.
