Who should I call for a mold inspection behind my wall?« Back to Previous Page

My kids have been coughing more than usual, and I just found a patch of black and green fuzzy stuff behind the wardrobe in our master bedroom. It's on the wall that faces the outside, and we've been running the AC non-stop to fight the humidity. Who can I call for a proper mold inspection, and are they going to have to tear down the wall to fix it?

You should call a certified mold inspector or indoor environmental professional. In Dubai, look for a company that employs qualified personnel with certifications like the IICRC (Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification) and, most critically, operates its own accredited microbiology lab. This ensures the inspection is science-driven and the subsequent lab analysis of any samples is reliable.

Given the visible growth and your children's symptoms, a professional inspection is strongly recommended. The inspector will conduct a visual assessment and likely use a moisture meter to check the wall's water content. To identify the mold type and its concentration in the air, they should take surface and air samples for lab analysis. This is a standard, non-invasive process; they will not need to tear down the wall for the initial inspection.

The remediation plan depends entirely on the lab results and the inspection findings. The mold behind your wardrobe is a common issue here, caused by thermal bridging—where the cold AC-chilled wall meets Dubai's hot, humid air, creating condensation inside. A proper inspection will determine the extent of the problem and whether the wall cavity is affected, which then dictates the necessary corrective measures.
