Who should I call for black mold in my bathroom?« Back to Previous Page

My ensuite bathroom in our Jumeirah apartment has had this musty smell for weeks, but I just pulled back the vanity cabinet today and found a ton of black mold spreading on the wall behind it. The grout around the shower has also gotten really dark. We run the exhaust fan, but the humidity is just so intense here. Who is the best professional to call for a proper remediation, and should I be getting my landlord involved first?

For serious mold growth like that, you need a certified mold remediation specialist, not a general handyman. Given the extent behind the vanity, a professional assessment is crucial to determine if it has penetrated the wall cavity.

In Dubai, you should notify your landlord or property management company immediately. Under typical tenancy contracts, structural and maintenance issues like this are their responsibility. They should arrange and pay for the proper remediation, as the persistent humidity is a building-related condition.

A proper remediation company will not just wipe the surface. They should isolate the area, remove contaminated porous materials like drywall, use HEPA filtration, and address the moisture source. Always ask for a post-remediation verification test from an independent third party to confirm the spore count has returned to safe levels. This documented proof is your assurance the job was done correctly.

Running the exhaust fan helps, but in our climate, it's often insufficient against constant high humidity and cold wall condensation from AC. Once remediated, consider a small dehumidifier for the bathroom to manage moisture between showers.
