Who should inspect and remove mold in a Dubai villa?« Back to Previous Page

My kids have been coughing and I suspect it's because of the black spots I just found behind our bedroom wardrobe. It’s a corner room in our Jumeirah villa and it feels damper than the rest of the house. Who is the best company to call for a proper mold inspection and safe removal, and are there any specific questions I should ask them?

Look for a Dubai-based company with a certified indoor environmental professional (CIEC or equivalent) on staff, not just a cleaning crew. The high humidity and constant AC use here create ideal conditions for mold in hidden areas like your wardrobe wall, which is likely a condensation cold spot.

Ask if they conduct independent lab analysis of air and surface samples to identify the specific mold type and spore count. This is crucial, as some species are more problematic than others. They should also perform a moisture survey to find the water source—whether it's a leak, rising damp, or condensation from the AC—as fixing that is the only way to prevent recurrence.

For removal, confirm they follow international guidelines like the IICRC S520 for mold remediation. This includes sealing the area with containment barriers, using HEPA filtration scrubbers, and proper disposal. Beware of companies that just spray a chemical and leave; proper removal is a physical process.

In Dubai, many reputable providers are accredited by the Dubai Municipality or have DHA-approved labs. A proper assessment and remediation process for a room of that size typically takes a few days from inspection to clearance testing.
