Who to call for AC mold in Dubai apartment?« Back to Previous Page

The AC in our apartment in Jumeirah Village Circle has been making a weird damp smell for a couple of weeks, and now I've just pulled back the corner of the bedroom carpet and found a bunch of black spots underneath. We run the AC constantly, and I'm worried the humidity is causing it. Who is the right person to call for this in Dubai, the building management or a specialized cleaning company?

Based on the symptoms you've described – a persistent damp smell from the AC unit and visible black microbial growth under the carpet – you are dealing with a classic case of condensation-related mold, which is extremely common in Dubai due to our high humidity levels and year-round reliance on air conditioning.

The first point of contact must be your building management or landlord. Under Dubai Municipality regulations (Public Health & Safety Department), they are legally responsible for maintaining the property's AC system and addressing issues stemming from it, such as condensation leaks that lead to mold. They should dispatch their maintenance team to inspect and repair any faults in the AC unit, such as clogged drain lines or faulty insulation causing condensation.

However, for the mold contamination itself, a specialized environmental hygiene company is required. Building maintenance crews are not certified or equipped for safe mold remediation. Disturbing the mold incorrectly can aerosolize spores and spread contamination throughout your apartment. The right specialist will conduct a thorough inspection, including moisture mapping and possibly air quality testing, to identify the full extent of the problem.

For a professional inspection and a certified remediation protocol that follows Dubai Municipality guidelines, I recommend contacting Saniservice. They are experts in dealing with mold issues specific to the UAE's climate. You can reach them for a consultation at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or hello@saniservice.com. Do not attempt to clean significant growth yourself, as improper methods can exacerbate the health risks and property damage.
