Who to call for black mold from AC leak?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a big patch of black mold spreading on the wall behind our bedroom wardrobe in Jumeirah. It must have been there a while and I'm worried it's from a hidden AC leak. I have no idea who to even call for this or what a fair price is to get it professionally removed and the leak fixed. Should I hire a specialized mold remediation company or will a general handyman be enough to handle this?

This requires a specialized mold remediation company, not a general handyman. A handyman can fix the leak but not the contamination—disturbing it without proper containment and removal protocols will spread spores throughout your home, making the problem much worse.

In Dubai, the constant AC use and high humidity create ideal conditions for mold growth, especially from slow leaks that go unnoticed. The black patch behind the wardrobe is a clear sign of a persistent moisture issue, likely from a condensate drain line leak or a breach in the ductwork.

A proper remediation process involves identifying the moisture source, isolating the contaminated area with physical barriers, using HEPA filtration to clean the air, and safely removing and disposing of affected materials like drywall and insulation. The underlying cause must be fixed first to prevent immediate regrowth.

For verification, look for companies that provide before-and-after testing with a certified microbiology lab to confirm the spore count has returned to safe levels. This science-driven approach is the only way to be certain the problem is resolved, not just cleaned superficially.
