Who to call for black mold from leak in Dubai?« Back to Previous Page

Our master bathroom in our Jumeirah Village Circle apartment has had this musty smell for weeks, but I just pulled back the vanity cabinet today and found a ton of black mold spreading on the wall behind it and underneath the sink. I think a pipe might have a slow leak. What’s the best way to handle this in Dubai – should I call the building management first or go straight to a professional cleaning company?

Call building management first. In Dubai, they are legally responsible for fixing the leak in the main plumbing, which is the source of your problem. Do not proceed with any cleaning until the water source is repaired, or the mold will return.

Given the extent you've described, a professional inspection is strongly recommended. The high humidity and constant AC use in Dubai creates ideal conditions for mold to spread into wall cavities. A proper assessment with a moisture meter can determine the full scope behind the vanity.

For remediation, the process must be contained to prevent spores from spreading to other rooms. This involves HEPA-filtered air scrubbers and antimicrobial treatment, not just wiping surfaces. Any company you consider should provide a detailed protocol and, ideally, before-and-after testing from an accredited microbiology lab to verify the space is safe. This is the standard for verifiable results in the UAE.
