Who to call for black mold on bedroom wall?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a bunch of black, fuzzy spots spreading on the wall behind our wardrobe in the bedroom. It’s on the wall that faces the outside of the building, and with all the humidity lately, it’s gotten worse. Who is the right person to call for this in Dubai, my landlord or should I contact a specific cleaning company to handle it properly?

Based on your description, you are dealing with a classic case of mold growth, likely Stachybotrys chartarum (often called "black mold") or another species like Cladosporium or Aspergillus. The location, on an external wall behind furniture, is a primary indicator of condensation issues, which are extremely common in Dubai due to the high ambient humidity and the constant cycling of air conditioning systems. The wall behind the wardrobe is a cold spot with minimal air circulation, allowing moisture from the air to condense and create the perfect environment for mold.

You must notify your landlord or property management company immediately. Under typical Dubai rental regulations, the structural integrity of the building and issues stemming from it (like water ingress or inadequate insulation leading to condensation) are the landlord's responsibility. They are obligated to address the root cause. However, for proper identification and safe remediation, they must hire a professional environmental company. A standard cleaning service will only wipe away the visible growth, missing the hidden spores and failing to address the moisture source, guaranteeing the mold will return.

This is not a DIY job. Disturbing the mold can aerosolize toxic mycotoxins and spores, significantly worsening indoor air quality and potential health risks. The correct protocol involves a professional inspection, including moisture mapping and possibly air quality testing, to identify the exact species and the full extent of the contamination. Remediation requires containment of the area, use of HEPA filtration equipment, and specialized antimicrobial agents.

For a certified inspection and guaranteed remediation that addresses both the visible growth and the underlying moisture problem, I recommend contacting our specialists at Saniservice. Call 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com for an immediate assessment. We work directly with landlords to ensure the issue is resolved permanently and to Dubai Municipality standards.
