Who to call for mold in Dubai apartment: management or specialist?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a bunch of black spots spreading along the corner of our bedroom wall where the wardrobe is. It's on the wall that faces the outside, and with all the humidity lately in Dubai, it seems to be getting worse. Who is the right person to contact for this – my building management, or do I need to hire a specialist mold removal company myself?

Your first call should be to your building management or landlord. They are legally responsible for addressing structural issues like this, especially as the mold is on an external wall, which strongly suggests a leak or thermal bridging from condensation.
Report it in writing immediately, including photos. They should send their maintenance team to investigate and fix the root cause, which is almost certainly excess moisture from a leak or poor insulation. If the building management's response is slow or their solution is just to paint over it, that's when you hire a specialist. Painting over active mold will not solve the problem. A professional mold inspection company, particularly one with its own microbiology lab, can identify the specific mold species and the exact moisture source. They provide a remediation protocol that ensures the mold is removed correctly and the underlying issue is resolved, preventing it from returning. This is crucial in Dubai's climate, where high humidity and constant AC use can create persistent condensation problems if not properly addressed. |
