Who to contact for black mold in JVC apartment?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a patch of black mold in the corner of our master bedroom closet, right on the wall where it meets the carpet. It’s on the side that faces the outer wall of our apartment in Jumeirah Village Circle. I’m really worried it’s been there a while and might be affecting our health. What’s the first step I should take to get this properly removed and who should I contact, my landlord or a professional cleaning service?

Contact your landlord or building management immediately and report the mold in writing, as they are legally responsible for resolving structural issues in Dubai rentals. The black patch in your JVC closet is likely due to a leak in the external wall or condensation from the AC, both common in our humid climate. Document the area with photos and request they send a professional to inspect and repair the source of the moisture first.

For a patch on the wall-to-carpet junction, a professional inspection is the necessary first step to identify the moisture source and assess the extent. Surface cleaning alone is insufficient if the wall cavity is affected. In many cases, the carpet and underlying padding may need removal.

A certified mold inspector can use moisture meters and borescopes to check inside the wall. Remediation involves fixing the leak, drying the structure completely with industrial equipment, then removing contaminated materials. Reputable providers in the UAE should offer documentation, including a post-remediation verification test from an independent lab, to confirm the space is truly clean and dry.
