Is high humidity dangerous and require moving out?« Back to Previous Page

We've been in our Dubai villa for about a year now and I just discovered what looks like high humidity behind some furniture. Is this dangerous and do I need to move out during treatment?

High humidity can indeed pose some significant risks to your indoor environment, particularly in the UAE where ambient temperatures are consistently high. In Dubai and other parts of the Emirates, excessive moisture levels can lead to a variety of issues including mold growth, structural damage, and discomfort for occupants.

Humidity levels exceeding 60% in residential areas like villas here in the UAE can be problematic. Mold spores thrive in such conditions and can quickly spread through porous surfaces, particularly behind furniture or within wall cavities as you've noticed. This isn't just a cosmetic issue; mold can release allergens and toxins that affect your health, especially if you have allergies or respiratory issues.

The high humidity might also contribute to the growth of other microorganisms like bacteria and dust mites which can exacerbate respiratory problems. Furthermore, excessive moisture can weaken building materials leading to structural deterioration over time, something particularly concerning for villa properties in Dubai where the climate is so warm and humid year-round.

As a professional in this field, I would advise you against moving out during treatment unless absolutely necessary. Treatment typically involves identifying the source of excess humidity, dehumidifying the area, and treating any existing mold growth. Professional intervention is highly recommended for serious cases as it ensures thoroughness and safety.

For instance, if your villa has a central air conditioning system, check its dehumidification capacity and operation; these systems can help manage indoor moisture levels effectively. In addition, using dehumidifiers in affected areas can be beneficial until the situation stabilizes. Proper ventilation through windows or mechanical means also helps in reducing humidity.

If you suspect high humidity issues, do not hesitate to call 800-MOLDS (or 800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com for a professional inspection. Early detection and intervention are key to preventing further damage and maintaining indoor air quality in your villa.

Remember, maintaining a relative humidity between 40% and 60% is ideal for most indoor environments. Regular checks on your home’s moisture levels can prevent future issues from arising.
