Can I remove mold myself or need a professional?« Back to Previous Page

My kids have been coughing more than usual, and I just found a patch of black and green fuzzy stuff behind the wardrobe in our master bedroom. We've lived in our Jumeirah villa for two years and just noticed it, probably because it's been so humid lately with all the fog. Is this something I can tackle myself with bleach from the supermarket, or do I need to call one of those professional mold remediation companies here?

Based on what you've described, this absolutely requires a professional inspection and remediation, not a DIY approach with bleach.

The combination of a child's persistent cough and a significant patch of mold (especially the black and green fuzzy description) is a major red flag. The humid, foggy conditions we've had are a classic catalyst for rapid mold growth in villas here, particularly in less-ventilated areas like behind furniture. Bleach is a surface-level solution that doesn't address the root moisture problem or kill the mold spores' roots (hyphae) embedded in porous materials like drywall or wood. It can actually aggravate the situation by releasing a cloud of harmful spores into the air during cleaning, potentially worsening your kids' respiratory issues.

In the UAE, proper remediation is governed by strict health and safety standards (like those from DM and DHA) that DIY can't meet. A certified professional will first conduct air and surface sampling to identify the specific mold type and spore count, which is critical for health reasons. The process involves containment of the area with negative air pressure to prevent cross-contamination, specialized HEPA filtration to scrub the air, and the safe removal and disposal of affected materials. Simply wiping it away is not enough.

For the safety of your family, especially your children, I strongly recommend a professional assessment. Please call our team at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com for a thorough inspection. We can determine the extent of the problem and provide a certified remediation plan to make your home safe again.
