Cost for mold remediation in Jumeirah apartment, or DIY with bleach?« Back to Previous Page

The AC in my apartment in Jumeirah Village Circle seems to be constantly leaking, and now I’ve found black spots spreading on the wall behind the bedroom wardrobe. We’ve been trying to ignore it since winter, but the smell is getting really strong. What’s the typical cost for professional mold remediation for a problem like this, and is it something I can handle myself with bleach or is that a bad idea?

Good question, and a very common issue here in Dubai, especially in JVC where the humidity can be a real challenge. That constant AC leak is the root cause – it's creating the perfect damp environment for mold to thrive behind that wardrobe.

On cost: For a localized issue like you're describing, where the mold is contained to one wall area, professional remediation in the UAE can typically range from AED 1,500 to AED 4,000+. The final price depends on the extent of the spread behind the surface, if the drywall needs replacement, and the required post-remediation testing to guarantee it's gone. You absolutely need to get that AC leak fixed first, or the problem will just come back.

Now, on the bleach idea: Please do NOT use bleach. This is a critical mistake. Bleach is mostly water, which actually feeds the mold roots deep in the porous wall. It might bleach the surface black colour temporarily, making it look gone, but the living organism remains and will come back stronger. It's also highly corrosive and the fumes mixed with the UAE's heat can be dangerous.

This is not a DIY job. The strong smell indicates active microbial growth, and disturbing it without proper containment, HEPA filtration, and PPE can spread spores throughout your entire apartment, making the problem much worse. We follow strict DM-approved guidelines for a reason.

My strong recommendation is to get a professional inspection. We can assess the true extent with moisture meters and borescopes. Call us at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com for a proper assessment and quote. Ignoring it since winter has already allowed it to get a serious foothold.
