Can I clean closet mold myself or call a pro?« Back to Previous Page

Our master bedroom closet on the outside wall has started to feel damp, and I just pulled out a couple of winter jackets to find small fuzzy black spots all over the back of them. It's been so humid the last few weeks that our AC is running non-stop. Is this something I can clean myself with vinegar or bleach, or do I need to call a professional company to check for a bigger problem in the walls?

Based on your description, this is a classic sign of a condensation-related mold issue, extremely common in Dubai's high humidity, especially when AC units are working overtime. The fuzzy black spots on your jackets are a major red flag.

While surface mold on non-porous materials can sometimes be addressed with a diluted bleach solution (never mix with vinegar!), your situation suggests a deeper problem. The dampness on an outside wall indicates a potential thermal bridge where warm, humid air is condensing inside the cooler closet. Simply wiping the visible mold off your jackets won't solve the moisture source. The mold is likely growing within the wall cavity, on the drywall, and on other contents. DIY cleaning often just disturbs the spores, spreading them further without addressing the root cause.

For a persistent issue like this, a professional inspection is strongly recommended. We use thermal imaging cameras to pinpoint the exact location of the moisture intrusion and air sampling to identify the spore types and concentration levels. This is crucial for determining the correct remediation protocol as per UAE standards.

Attempting a large-scale cleanup yourself can violate Dubai Municipality guidelines for proper containment and disposal of contaminated materials. For a proper assessment and a lasting solution, it's best to call our certified team. We can determine if this is an isolated incident or a sign of a bigger problem.

Call 800-MOLDS or 800-66537 for a comprehensive inspection, or email hello@saniservice.com to send us pics of the damage and we can advise further.
