Should I remove black mold myself or call a professional?« Back to Previous Page

My kids have been coughing and I suspect it's from a patch of black mold I found behind our bedroom wardrobe in Mirdif. It’s been there since the humidity spiked a couple of weeks ago, and I can't seem to get rid of the damp smell with just vinegar. Is this something I can safely tackle myself with bleach or a specific product from ACE, or do I need to call in a professional company?

That’s a very common and concerning situation, especially with kids involved. From what you describe in Mirdif, the persistent damp smell and recurring patch behind the wardrobe are major red flags.
Here’s the hard truth: using vinegar or bleach from ACE is a temporary surface fix at best. Bleach, in particular, is mostly water, which can actually feed the mold roots deep within the gypsum board. In our UAE climate, that high humidity means the moisture source is likely still active, probably from condensation or a minor seepage you can't see. The coughing is a significant indicator that spores are airborne. DIY removal is strongly discouraged for three key reasons: First, improper handling will aerosolize toxic spores throughout your home, worsening the air quality and your family's exposure. Second, without professional-grade HEPA containment and air scrubbers, you cannot prevent cross-contamination. Third, identifying and addressing the root moisture cause requires diagnostic tools like thermal imaging and moisture meters. For the health of your family and to guarantee the problem is solved at its source, a professional inspection is absolutely warranted. We can identify the exact species and the hidden moisture issue.
