Is AC leak mold making my toddler sick?« Back to Previous Page

The AC in our villa bedroom has been leaking a little onto the carpet for a couple of weeks, and now I'm seeing a small black speckled patch in the corner. My two-year-old has been sneezing a lot more than usual and I'm really worried it's connected. What's the safest way to clean this and test if it's the dangerous kind without exposing my family?

Based on the symptoms you describe, there is a very high probability that the AC leak and the subsequent mold growth are contributing to your toddler's increased sneezing. The constant moisture from the drip is creating an ideal breeding ground for mold, and the spores become airborne, easily inhaled and acting as a potent irritant, especially for young children whose respiratory systems are more sensitive.

The black speckled patch is a major red flag. Attempting to clean it yourself is strongly discouraged. Disturbing the colony without proper containment will aerosolize a massive amount of spores throughout the room, drastically increasing your family's exposure. Over-the-counter DIY solutions are ineffective against the root problem and can be hazardous if mixed improperly.

For the safety of your family, a professional inspection is absolutely essential. We are certified under the Dubai Municipality guidelines for environmental testing and would conduct a thorough assessment. This includes using moisture meters to find the full extent of the water damage hidden within the walls or under the carpet and taking air and surface samples to be analyzed in an accredited lab. This is the only way to accurately identify the species (e.g., whether it's the more hazardous Stachybotrys, aka "black mold") and to determine the correct remediation protocol.

Please do not delay. For immediate advice and to schedule a certified inspection and safe testing, call our experts at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com. We can advise on immediate steps to minimize exposure until we arrive.
