Can I fix AC mold on carpet or need professional?« Back to Previous Page

The AC in my bedroom has been dripping a bit of water onto the carpet for a couple of weeks, and now there's a small black and greenish patch of mold spreading from the corner. I tried wiping it with bleach, but the smell is still musty and I'm worried it's inside the carpet padding. Is this something I can tackle myself with a proper cleaner, or do I need to call a professional mold remediation company in Dubai?

Based on the symptoms you've described—dripping AC for weeks, a spreading black/green patch, and a persistent musty odor—this is almost certainly a case where you need professional mold remediation, especially here in Dubai.
The issue isn't just the surface mold you see. AC condensate water has soaked into the carpet backing and the underlying padding, creating a perfect, hidden environment for mold growth. Bleach is ineffective on porous materials; it only bleaches the surface color and does not kill the roots (hyphae) embedded deep within. The lingering musty smell is a clear biological indicator that the mold is still active and thriving out of sight. In the UAE's high humidity, this problem will not resolve itself and poses a health risk from airborne spores. Attempting a DIY fix often disturbs the colony, causing spores to become aerosolized and spread throughout your bedroom and HVAC system. Our standard protocol involves a thorough inspection with moisture meters and borescopes to assess the damage within the carpet pad and subfloor. Remediation includes isolating the area with negative air pressure, removing and disposing of the contaminated padding and potentially the carpet, HEPA vacuuming, and applying EPA-approved antimicrobial agents. Simply put, the carpet padding is a loss and must be replaced. For a proper and lasting solution, I strongly recommend a professional assessment. Please call our certified team at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com for an inspection. It's crucial to also have your AC unit serviced to stop the source of the water leak immediately. |
