Should I test for mold in my closet immediately?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived in our villa in Mirdif for two years and just noticed these weird black spots in the corner of our master bedroom closet. It's been so humid lately, and the room's AC doesn't seem to be drying the air out properly. Is this something I need to get tested for mold immediately, or can it wait a few weeks until our schedule clears up?

Based on your description, yes, you should prioritize getting that tested immediately. The combination of visible black spots and the high ambient humidity we're experiencing in Dubai right now is a significant red flag. Mirdif, like many villa communities, can be particularly susceptible to mold issues due to construction materials and sometimes inadequate ventilation in enclosed spaces like closets.

The fact that your AC isn't effectively controlling humidity is a major contributing factor. Mold spores are always present in the air; they only need moisture and an organic food source (like dust, paper, or the cellulose in drywall) to colonize. What you're seeing are the established colonies. Delaying action for weeks allows the colony to expand, potentially causing further property damage and increasing the risk of health effects, especially for those with allergies or respiratory sensitivities.

Professional testing is crucial. We'd perform air quality tests inside the closet and in the bedroom to compare spore counts, as well as take direct samples from the spots to identify the species. This is important because some types of mold are more hazardous than others. DIY tests from hardware stores are notoriously unreliable and cannot provide this level of actionable data.

Our certified inspectors follow UAE standards for environmental health and can provide a detailed remediation protocol. Don't attempt to clean this yourself, as improper disturbance can aerosolize the spores and spread the problem.

For a proper assessment, please call us at 800-MOLDS or 800-66537 to schedule an inspection. We can also advise on rectifying the humidity issue to prevent recurrence.
