Urgent: Is AC mold making us sick in Dubai apartment?« Back to Previous Page

The AC in my apartment seems to be blowing out a damp, earthy smell that’s really strong in the master bedroom. We’ve lived here for 2 years in Jumeirah and just noticed these black speckles around the air vent on the ceiling after the recent humidity. My wife has started waking up with a stuffy nose and I'm worried it's making us sick. How urgently do we need to get this professionally cleaned, and is it something we can stay in the house for?

Based on the symptoms you're describing – the damp, earthy smell, the black speckles around the vent, and your wife's stuffy nose – it is highly probable that your AC system has a significant mold contamination. This is an extremely common issue here in Dubai and across the UAE due to our high humidity levels, especially after the recent weather. The AC's evaporator coil and drip pan create a cold, wet environment that is a perfect breeding ground for mold, which then gets blown directly into your living space.

The health concerns are very real. Inhaling mold spores can cause exactly the respiratory irritation, sinus congestion, and allergic reactions you're noticing. For some individuals, it can lead to more severe issues. Given that the contamination is in your bedroom where you spend hours breathing the air, this needs to be addressed with a sense of urgency.

I strongly advise against trying to clean this yourself. Disturbing the mold without proper containment and HEPA filtration will only aerosolize more spores throughout the apartment, worsening the problem. UAE regulations for environmental health are strict for a reason.

You need a professional mold inspection and AC hygienization service. A certified technician will conduct air and surface sampling to identify the mold type and contamination levels, and then perform a thorough cleaning of the entire ductwork and coil system using EPA-approved biocides. It is generally safe to remain in the home during this process if the remediation area is properly sealed off, but the professionals will advise you based on the severity.

For your safety, please get this assessed immediately. Call our team at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com to schedule an inspection. Don't delay; this is impacting your health.
