AC mold under carpet in Dubai apartment: DIY or professional?« Back to Previous Page

The AC in our Jumeirah apartment has been leaking a bit onto the carpet in the living room for a couple of weeks, and I just pulled the corner back to find a patch of black and green mold underneath. With the humidity and how much we run the AC, I’m worried it’s spreading. What’s the best way to handle this myself safely, or do I absolutely need to call a professional company here in Dubai?

The situation you're describing is extremely common here in Dubai due to our high humidity and the constant AC load. An AC leak creating hidden mold under carpet is a serious concern and I strongly advise against a DIY approach.

The black and green growth you see is likely more than just surface mold. The carpet backing, underlay, and even the concrete slab underneath can be saturated, creating a perfect breeding ground for microbial amplification. Disturbing it yourself risks releasing a massive amount of spores into your living environment, which can trigger severe allergic reactions or respiratory issues. Standard cleaning solutions like bleach are ineffective on porous materials and only address surface discoloration, not the root infestation.

Under Dubai Municipality and UAE health regulations, this qualifies as a potential indoor environmental hazard that requires professional assessment. A certified inspector will use moisture meters and thermal imaging to map the full extent of the saturation and take air/surface samples to identify the specific mold species, which is crucial for determining the correct remediation protocol. The remediation itself involves containment with negative air pressure, HEPA vacuuming, antimicrobial treatment, and likely removal of the affected carpet and padding to prevent regrowth.

For a proper inspection and a certified remediation plan, you should contact our specialists. We can assess the risk accurately and ensure it's handled according to UAE standards.
