How can I waterproof my storage cage from flooding?« Back to Previous Page

After the massive storm last month, our underground parking garage in JVC had over a foot of water, and our storage cage got completely soaked. We’re finally getting everything dried out, but I’m terrified of the next big rain. What’s the most effective way to waterproof or protect our storage cage from future flooding down there?

Based on the severe flooding you described in JVC, your concerns are absolutely valid. The high water table and potential for stormwater intrusion in underground garages here in Dubai makes this a critical issue.

First and most importantly, any effective waterproofing strategy MUST begin with a professional assessment. The storm may have compromised the structural integrity of the slab and walls surrounding your cage, creating new pathways for water. Our certified inspectors use thermal imaging and moisture meters to identify these hidden risks, which is a prerequisite for any remediation plan. For a situation this severe, a professional inspection is non-negotiable.

For the cage itself, consider a multi-layered approach. Elevation is your primary defense. Construct a raised, non-absorbent platform (e.g., pressure-treated timber or powder-coated metal frames with marine-grade plywood) to keep belongings at least 30-40cm off the floor. For the cage walls, avoid sealing them entirely as this can trap humidity and lead to severe mold growth inside the cage. Instead, use open-weave, rust-proof metal mesh for ventilation.

For critical items, invest in heavy-duty, IP67-rated sealed plastic containers, which are dust-tight and can withstand temporary immersion. Finally, ensure the building management has addressed the garage's main drainage systems, as per Dubai Civil Defence regulations, which mandate proper pumping and waterproofing for subterranean structures. Your safety depends on the building's overall integrity.

Given the extent of the initial flooding, we strongly recommend a professional evaluation to prevent future damage and health hazards from mold. Please call us at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com for a comprehensive assessment.
